The Secret Life of the American Teenager is a series created by Brenda Hampton which premiered in ABC on July 2008.

Starring Shailene Woodley as Amy Juergens, The Secret Life of the American Teenager revolves around the unexpected pregnancy of Amy and her dealings with regards to her early pregnancy. The series tackles how the people surrounding Amy, friends and family, focuses on her unexpected teenage pregnancy. Later , Amy gives birth to her first child and the show shifts on how Amy deals with being a teenage mom. The challenges and problems she faces and how she deals with her teenage pregnancy is the main plot of the show.

Amy is the daughter of George and Anne Juergens, portrayed by Mark Derwin and Molly Ringwald respectively. The seventeen year old sophomore of Ulysses S. Grant High School in Valley Glen, California wanted to be part of the alumni of Juilliard before a life changing event occurred. Her one night stand with Ricky Underwood, portrayed by Daren Kagasoff, has made her pregnant. Even if they are still young to face such responsibility, the two teenagers decided to keep the child and raise the baby. However, with so much responsibility and challenges that the two faces, the two ended up breaking up. But still, Amy remained strong for her child and seek for the support of her family and friends.

Also starring in the Secret Life of the American Teenager are India Eisley as Amy’s 15 year-old ister named Ashley Juergens; Kenny Baumann as the current boyfriend of Amy named Benjamin “Ben” Boykewich; Francia Raisa as Adrian Lee; Megan Park as Grace Kathleen Bowman; Greg Finley II Jack Pappas; and Steve Schirripa as Leo Boykewich.
