The Secret Life of the American Teenager” can be best described as an amusing show. The so-called secrets on the show are not that intriguing and the sex life is best compared to a soap opera. The show is intended to be based on the premise of a young teenager who has met with an unexpected pregnancy and subsequently has to deal with motherhood. It also tries to portray how all this affects the teenager’s family and friends. Brenda Hampton, (creator of “7th Heaven”) is the brain behind this series, which is sometimes inane and has more shaped into a comedy of late. The actors on the show are not really teenagers, but are somewhere in their 20’s. But some of them does not do a bad job al together.

Amy seems to the unlike candidate to be called the sweet innocent girl. She seems manipulative and does not care for other people’s feelings. Last season she finally decides to keep her baby and to stay with John. She always tends to be irritated and overall nasty. To add to her woes, her mother is also to give birth to another child. The role of Amy Juergens is played by Shailene Woodley, who turns 18 this November. She actually does a wonderful job and deserves four stars for her performance.

The role of Ashley’s sister is played by India Eisley, who is a teenager in real life and turns 16 this October. She also does fine job playing the obnoxious sister, but sometimes appears to be speaking in a monotone and forgetful of her lines so she deserves three stars for her performance.

Rick Underwood plays the “bad boy” who impregnated Amy. He is a definite sex addict, which is evident for the fact that he tries to hit on Amy’s sister after taking her to a garage sale. He does not fit the criteria of a proverbial bad boy who is willing to have sex with anyone, wears leather jackets, riding motorcycles and smoking, or trying to save someone or end up dying, instead he is really quite boring .Ricky’s role is acted by Daren Kagasoff, who turns 21 this month, does a fine job and deserves three stars.

After having casual sex with Ricky and several others for a long time the promiscuous Adrian Lee

is finally starting to garner some maturity as now see now wants more out of a relationship and understands that only sex is not suffice for her and now wants to get married and have kids. Adrian is played by Francia Raisa (a/k/a Francia Raisa Almendarez) who does a superlative job and deserves five stars.

Ken Baumann (who is 20 years old) plays the geeky kid Ben Boykewich who is hopelessly in love with Amy; even though she treats him like he doesn’t exist .Ken deserves four stars.

Megan Park, now 23, plays the role of Grace Bowman superbly. Grace is a devoted Christian girl who brings some comic relief to the show. She deserves five stars for her superlative performance.

Jack Pappas and Tom are perhaps the show’s oldest teenagers. Jack who is Grace’s boyfriend is played by Greg Finley II, who is 29 years of age. Tom is Grace’s adopted brother and Downs Syndrome, his role is played by the 29 year old Luke Zimmerman.
